The Student visa (subclass 500) lets you study an eligible course in Australia for up to 6 years, costs from AUD2,500 and allows work of up to 48 hours a fortnight while your course is in session.

Most applicants must now apply from outside Australia. Current Student visa holders can only apply in Australia if one of six exemptions applies, and many other temporary visa holders cannot apply in Australia at all.

Most applicants can no longer include family members, unless an exemption applies (for example PhD students, DFAT or Defence sponsored students, foreign government scholarship recipients and eligible Pacific or ASEAN students). Family cannot be added after the visa is granted.

Yes. A parent, custodian or eligible relative aged 21 or older can apply for a Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) to care for a Student visa holder under 18.

It can, through visas such as the Temporary Graduate (485) and then skilled, employer-sponsored or regional visas, but PR is never guaranteed. Planning your course with your long-term goals in mind keeps more options open.

We combine QEAC certified education counselling with MARA registered visa advice: choosing your course and provider, preparing your Student visa and Genuine Student answers, and planning your pathway after graduation.
