How the Points Test Works
The skilled migration points test ranks applicants for the points-tested visas. Points are assessed at the time you are invited to apply, and you need at least 65 points. In practice, invitations go to the highest scores first, so many occupations need more.
The biggest factors are age, English, skilled employment and qualifications. Other factors such as Australian study, regional study, a Professional Year, a NAATI credentialled community language and your partner's skills can add valuable extra points.
