About the State & Territory Nomination for Skilled Visas

Each year, states and territories receive a nomination allocation, which lets them nominate migrants for the state-nominated visas: the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). States assess applicants against their own criteria to meet their workforce and demographic needs and address critical skills shortages.

A nomination is permission to apply for one of these visas. Allocations are the number of new primary applicants each state can nominate in a program year. They do not determine the number of visas granted.
